What is Ransomware and how to guard against it?

Ransomware is a relatively new security thread. It is a very dangerous type of malware which enciphers data in the computer or the entire network and its authors demand ransom money in order to decipher your data. Ramsonware may enter your computer through an email attachment by downloading a dangerous file, by breaching a weak password or through a hole in the operational system security.

Protection against Ransomware:

Unfortunately, there is no 100 per cent protection and it is important to observe principles of secure behaviour when working on the internet. To use safe passwords: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm287r-mLdE – here you will find important information (all staff members should obligatorily consult this page):

  • avoid opening attachments from unknown senders even though they look safe on the surface; possibly check the type of file;
  • use an upgraded operational system and applications;
  • use an up-to-date antivirus system;
  • make backup copies.
More details will be provided in the next contribution, including tips how to secure your computer.
